My main reason for using my US passport on short trips to the UK is simply because it works the eGates whereas my UK one does not and I am always told to "Seek Assistance" whenever I try and use it. It is ludicrous that I am able to enter the UK more efficiently using my US passport than my UK one.
There was a period a while ago (2024, perhaps?) when this seemed to be a common problem - my UK passport would also get rejected 9 times out of 10 at the e-gates - but it seems to have been resolved now. I have not had to seek assistance in well over a year.
