Just had a 3 nights stay here, cash, SUA'd to a Park Deluxe Suite (former Park Suite), wasn't upgraded further. It's my 5th stay here and first one post renovation. Phenomenal hard product post-renovation, with the exception of the shower water pressure being much weaker than before which is a real shame. Minor details such as the thermostat, lighting, soft closes etc, were thoughtfully done. Dined at Girandole, NYG, NYB, in-room dining and Kozue and was overall satisfied with the delivery and execution F&B wise.
Overall it was an outstanding stay but the service was kindof mixed. On one hand there were some minor hiccups such as one missed turndown (well, they showed up at 9pm, which was weird). Breakfast, I agree the quality of the buffet is outstanding, but service is kindof flustered and mains selection are relatively limited (and lackluster in quality). When we arrived, they just cluelessly asked what's your name are you checking in. In the old days, they'd know to check the luggage tags and deal with bags without prompting (and page the FD synchronically.). On the other hand, (not sure if it's a cash vs points thing), they seem to have blasted my picture as part of their daily briefing as I would be greeted by name when I walked past various places in the hotel, and my name / room # would magically appear on the bill even if I did not go through the hotel when dining in-house...etc.
The location didn't really bother me that much as taxis are readily available (about a 1000 yen ride to Shinjuku Station / 2000 yen to Shinjuku Sanchome). Speaking of which, it was quite cute of them to insist having the hotel van and dropping me off at Shinjuku Station upon departure walking me to the JR entrance (I at first asked for a taxi specifically saying their shuttle drop off spot was too far from the station itself)
I think I would happily return under a few assumptions:
- a 2+ nights stay (i frequently visit TYO for the weekend and for 1-night stays, I'd perhaps prefer better located peers in Minato-ku such as Andaz / Edition which are definitely competitive in terms of both hard and soft product)
- cash rate is not over 120k JPY++ a night, which seems to be difficult now
- I could use an SUA to one of the 'real' former Park Suites (we were put in a 'City View Room' for a couple hours arriving in the morning, that room was compact......)
