Too late for BA flights (which normally run to about £6-9K! Immediately booked the 6.30 jal flight so we could pack and head to airport. £6.3k each... CX was an option but WiFi always seems unreliable so we switched to the 9.30pm QR (incl jal codeshare) via Doh for £3.5K each and cancelled the direct. Nice flights. Arrived HND midnight Saturday, so arrived at our destination early Sunday morning.
So far so good...

The (nice) surprise, the TP for the flights was4200... Lower than 1gpb per tp.They showed up on Sunday.

Second surprise... On the outbound lhr-doh one of our party was able to pay £1930 to add a flexible return to her outbound ticket, returning after the cremation. Assuming the same TP, that will be 8400 new tp for £5.4k. Nice

Well, I know it's not nice it's really expensive for the flights. Normally we would use avios or exeu to pay £2.5 round trip, but the TP yield is better than paying more to BA! (they could not ticket the lhr-doh-hnd route...

Very odd.
When flying QR beyond DOH, the TP's awarded are still distance based but at a fraction of the old amounts. Booking classes P/R/I awards at 25% of the distance flown, D/C/J awards at 50% of the distance flown. I don't know what fare bucket /class designator your tickets booked into but the general consensus is assuming it's one of these lower fare buckets, you'd have been better off putting them to QR Privilege Club or to Finnair where you wouldn't have got screwed as hard as BA like to screw their loyal followers as this thread attests. You can achieve status with QR/AY relatively easily and still combine your Avios to your BA account if you really want to.

BA has entered into a joint venture between the UK and Japan with JL and AY for some years now. It's not really surprising BA weren't able to book you via DOH with QR.... that particular routing is not part of the joint venture.
