AA pilots are only guaranteed F if they are on duty (aka deadheading,) thus it is controllable by the company as to not find themselves in the downgrade situation. If they are commuting, they are not guaranteed F.
You're welcome to think whatever you like. It's quite clear that this isn't true in the reality that we are living in, unfortunately, even if you're willing to dismiss it out of hand.
