Stayed here for 3 nights in an Andaz Suite via a SUA. It was 25k/night with off peak pricing the whole stay and the cash rate was right around $500/night so figured it was a decent redemption. This was actually my first Andaz ever so that was exciting to check off brand explorer! Left a very strong positive impression.
As others have said, location is fantastic. Walkable to literally everything (Times Square, Grand Central station, plenty of subway stops) yet on a "quiet" street for Midtown. I was surprised with how quiet the room was overnight - the Andaz isn't in a huge building, just 14 stories and my room was on the 13th, so I expected some street noise but it wasn't bad at all.
One small thing that immediately irked me is that the photos you see on the Andaz Suite on the website/app don't show the same room as the actual Andaz Suite...they show what appears to be a corner suite with vast floor to ceiling windows and a weird sofa + desk combination. That's not what you get in the typical Andaz Suite (at least, room 1316). It's certainly not a bad room, though I will note it's not a true suite - there's no door separation from the bedroom to living room, so I consider it more of a junior suite. However, the bathroom is large with dual vanity, a huge shower, and an overall great hard product.
High-tech controls for lights and automatic shades (but no automatic sheers which was weird, and the sheers were in poor condition). Now my main issue with this room is that the blackout curtains were completely ineffective - this might be the
most light I've ever seen come in in a hotel room. As a person who likes to sleep in, this was very frustrating. I bring masking tape to try and tape the edges generally, but this room's blackout curtain literally didn't cover the entire floor to ceiling window (which is massive and beautiful), so there's a huge section on the right side that let in tons of light. Very strange design choice, but I'm kind of hoping it was just a room-specific flaw? In the living room, the blackout curtain has an actual divider - it's two different blackout curtains with a gap maybe ~4 inches in the middle, meaning there's a lot of light that comes in through there. So there's basically no way to stop light from flowing into the room - starting at sunrise, I could very clearly see everything in the room
Aside from that, the rest of the room was super nice. The bathroom is top notch, Byredo products were much appreciated, the complimentary minibar items were great (potato chips + Andaz branded chocolate bar + variety of soft drinks/water). The room felt very upscale, tall ceilings, beautiful windows (even though the view is just of other office buildings), and good sound isolation. Housekeeping was also excellent.
Overall, I wouldn't return to that specific room...assuming other rooms have better blackout curtains, I'd return for the right rate. The property itself was great for Manhattan-based activities.
