Maybe parking is cheaper elsewhere (I'm guessing they pay for space for the planes if they stay on the ground due to delays?).
Looking at JFK's arrivals, looks like AA cancelled pretty much all inbounds other than some international flights (probably to avoid EU261).
That’s true but outbound JFK flights could still operate based on early afternoon weather situations aircraft woukd not be stuck there
