I’ve been changing my passport info on AC myself during online check-in for ages now. It’s not entirely intuitive (you have to hit the back button to go back a page when it ask for ETA/visa details when checking in on your return segment) but entirely possible and quick to change your passport during online check-in with AC. Takes 30 seconds and doesn’t require intervention by AC staff.

Thank you for this info. AC staff were definite that I couldn’t do it. I should have known better.
