I have a couple of questions about upgrading to First on Swiss and would really appreciate any recent experiences. Apologies if they’ve been answered before.

I previously had a Business Class award ticket booked via Miles and More on Lufthansa before the award changes last year. In the Lufthansa app, I was given the option to bid for an upgrade to First.

After the programme changes, I cancelled and booked a new award ticket with Swiss in Business using miles. Now in the Swiss app the upgrade option is greyed out and there is no bidding option available.

Is it possible to upgrade a Swiss Business award ticket to First at all? If so, can this be done by calling the Miles and More service centre or via the app, or is the only chance to request or purchase an upgrade at the airport?


Secondly, do Swiss typically block seats 1A and 1K on every flight until check in? Are these seats held back for HON Circle or Senator members, or are they generally released closer to departure for anyone booked in First?
