So for me, that is an upside to AA. I can only achieve top tier status on one of the two airlines, or maintain tier 3 on both, in my case all it does is push me to Ex Plat on AA and then once I have that rely on UA for backup travel.
If those are the two main factors in your decision, fair enough.
I suspect for many others (including myself) I would include other factors that wouldn’t make AA any better. As Kacee pointed out, there is a reason why achieving EXP is so much easier than 1K. And that United keeps raising the bar for getting 1K.
