Road Trip Savannah to Atlanta - suggestions please
We (from the UK) have a road trip planned for May/June. Flying into Nashville, back from Atlanta. We'll be visiting some places we've been to before, some places new, plus meeting up with some good friends en route. Our itinerary is Nashville - Chattanooga - Franklin (TN) - Myrtle Beach - Charleston - Savannah - Atlanta.
I seek the advice and suggestions from the group for the last part of our journey from Savannah to Atlanta. We'll leave Savannah on Monday 9th June, and have two nights/three days before we leave for home from Atlanta on the evening of Wednesday 10th June.
We are thinking of visiting the Warner Robins Air Museum (we love planes and transport museums) on the afternoon of Monday 9th, having driven from Savanna in the morning. What to do next - do we stay in the area overnight or press on further? Do we stay in Macon? If so, for one or two nights? Or do we stop somewhere else en route? We don't particularly wish to stay in the Atlanta metropolitan area, as we've been there several times before and think that we've done all the touristy things. We did think of getting to Atlanta airport mid-afternoon on the day of our departure in order to visit the Delta Museum. Our flight leaves at 22:30.
We'd appreciate any suggestions on stopovers, places of interest or just general 'don't miss' places en route to make a memorable end to our holiday.
Thanks in advance.
