If merchants will now assess higher fees on cards that have rewards and consumers decide to use cards or other payment methods that have no fees, then there will be a reduction in usage of these cards that will have a domino effect on loyalty programs.
Certainly the trend: phone companies (e.g. T-Mobile.) eliminated cc payments. AAA no payments by credit card for car & home insurance renewals.
The list keeps growing.
