So I got the device today and I set it up. If you gift it away, it does hold your annual membership (as a credit) on the device. They do ask for a credit card in order to set up (to renew the membership after the 1 year expires). I think you could give out the device and then switch the membership to a new email? Calling Whoop to say you want to gift it to a family member or friend. I don't see why they wouldn't allow that.
In terms of the device. The band is comfortable. The metal itself is thin. Is this worth $300? No, but I know it's the data sensor which feels solid. I do like the portable charger that it comes with. Pretty smart to take it on the go or to charge your device as you shower/swim. You can wear the device on another wrist and keep your Apple Watch. The device doesn't look like a second watch, it looks like it could be a bracelet. I'll try it out and see how it goes on my travels.
