Even so, you did well to manage that at LHR these days. Espeically with adult children. But I fully agree with your wife - shy bairns get nowt.
Also 2k Avios is a p*** take. I'd be pushing back on that one.
Correction: noted you flew in Y, not J, so compensation for not loading your food may be lower than what it would have attracted in J, but 2,000 Avios is appalling for no food for such a long flight. I'd still challenge noting that it is an inadequate response for that level of failure, leaving you without food for much of the day.
