With regards to coming on here first, I totally agree, however it was 5am 2 days after christmas and we had a cruise booked for the next day, so time was of the essence to secure travel and sadly BA and EI were little to no help.

How long ago was the flight? BA won't do anything unless and until they acknowledge the MAN-MCO flight was cancelled and that the ticket needs to be sent to the back office for a refund calculation and processing. You can't stop chasing BA until they confirm it has been sent to the refund queue. I suspect this is going to take a lot of prompting from you.
