Rather than sniping at one another about whether Travel Bank reimbursements were a loophole, what we need now is for UA flyers to try other types of expenses and report if they are reimbursed automatically, or after asking. Travel Bank reimbursements have been so effortless for so long that we do not have fresh data on other techniques such as lounge memberships, lounge passes, luggage fees, seat selection, WiFi, meals, extra costs when changing a ticket, etc. Some of these should be reimbursed by rule (e.g. lounge and luggage), but others depend on exactly how UA describes the transactions. American Express does not intend to reimburse upgrades (moving to another class of service), but will reimburse a fee to select a specific seat. American Express will not reimburse WiFi if billed by a third party, but may reimburse if UA bills it directly.
