Update on this saga: while I got a positive response (albeit one that reeked of GenAI) from customer relations, the refunds department rejected the claim on the grounds that she was indeed seated in her booked class of service. I'm not sure if they really understood the issue.

I've been exhausted and so done with AA customer service on lounge issue mistakes/errors so I know you feel. Keep persisting though, at least write a response. You can get your Mom 15K miles for sure if not maybe an invite to FFD down the road although mileage is usually go to resolution.
