There must have been some factor (inducement?) at play for HK Express, because a few years back when I interviewed Cathay's CCO she said CX and UO would both remain at T1, so it appears
something changed in the interim.
Until T2 fully opens with gates, etc.. (2027,2028?), I doubt that a premium airline like SQ would want to move.
I'm hearing 2027 (back half?) and tend to agree that the likes of SQ would prefer to minimise passenger hassle (and keep their T1 lounge) until T2 is in full swing – and even then, is it really worth their moving to T2?
Any longhaul airline flying to/from HK would wish their connecting regional flights of the same alliance to be in the same terminal.
Makes perfect sense, although again, CX T1 and UO T2... but overall, indeed, any T1 airline would want to be looking at their passenger's travel patterns, how many of them connect onto a regional partner flight etc. At least T1 looks certain to remain the Oneworld terminal!
Given SkyTeam's relatively Asia-heavy membership roster, and those being regional flights, perhaps most SkyTeam airlines will move to T2 and SkyTeam will open its own lounge at T2. Anyway, all speculation and so much can and will change over the next 12-18 months...
