So do I understand correctly that if they use the old config plane, 18 isn't an exit row but 17 seats are good, but if it gets switched to the new configuration in the next 2 months then row 18 will be a good exit row and row 17 will be bad? Thanks!
If row 17 has two seats on each side instead of three, it's bad.

That's the tell. In that case, you're better off in row 16 or 18 if you appreciate legroom.
