I notified BA straight away that the flight was cancelled( it was cancelled at 1am for 10am flight) and told by them that I had to deal with Aer, which I then did. Thats the first I have heard about the mennens formula and as you say it makes perfect sense to use that, so Im not sure why they havent used this, I shall ask the question. Thanks
Thanks the added details are very helpful. So clearly a last minute cancellation by EI. You should contact EI again asking for refund using the Mennens formula for the cancelled leg. I'm not sure what the reason for cancellation was but if it was eligible for EC261 compensation and EI was not able to offer an alternative routing that would have arrived within 3 hours of your original flight times, you should be eligible for that too.
