FFC and ETC (except for transferability) have very similar uses and have principally been just usable for flight booking. Not for auxiliary fees. TB is just UA flights.
The bottom line is none of these currencies can be used for auxiliary fees, you were very lucky to get an agent to do this.
I don't mean that the FFC was used for paying the farelock fee. I paid the fee using credit card. The agent essentially converted the FFC into ETC and applied to the ticket. My gripe was that when I canceled the original booking (within 24 hours), the phone agent said that I should do farelock and then later buy the ticket when the FFC showed up. When it actually showed up, I found out that FFCs could not be used towards buying a farelocked ticket. So all of this is quite confusing and it seems that the agent was also misinformed.
