TK90 IST-ICN Q2 2025 02:15 departure B777
Online menu was correct for this flight so I have uploaded the PDF. Pre-ordering seemed to have no effect.
Service was decent if maybe a little bit mechanical but the very late departure time may have had something to do with that as everyone seemed a bit tired. Crew members patrolled up and down the aisles of what seemed to be their 'sectors' periodically on this large 777. Several members of the crew had high Korean language proficiency which came into play with several of the passengers who seemed to speak minimal English (this route seems to carry a high number of Korean tourists, and in particular package tour guests who tend to trend on the older side fill up economy to the brim on some days).
I asked for both appetizers which was happily provided. Mezze was good, somehow better than what was in the lounge although it looked the same. The slice of cured meat (Turkish beef prosciutto?) was a bit tough/leathery, maybe because it was a bit thicker than what I am used to
Cauliflower steak was quite good. Obviously didn't have a fresh-off-the-grill taste but it wasn't mushy at all as I was afraid it might be, and I really appreciated the creative vegetarian option (despite not being vegetarian by any means).
Dessert was good but in hindsight I wish I had asked for the halwa as well. The ice cream is not as chewy as some Turkish ice cream I have had in the past.
I really like this type of thick yogurt. Is there a particular name for it? It seems thicker than typical greek yogurt that one might find in US grocery stores. I would love to find a commercial version.
Poached egg benedict was quite good with a nice runny yolk, and flavors well-balanced. I appreciate the Turkish twist with the pide but I don't think it works as well as the traditional English muffin as it is a bit tougher to cut up with knife and fork and makes eating it a bit messier.
