I’m flying YYZ-FRA-VRN return and my layover in FRA is only 1h 20min on the outbound and 1h 15min on the inbound.
It looks like AC842/843 usually arrives/departs in B20-62, and EN8826/8827 from A1-42. My understanding from the wiki up top is that going from B to A I’ll need to clear security and passport control (not sure why security is needed though, isn’t Canada a “clean” country?). But on the way back I should be able to avoid security and just go through passport control. And both ways I can take the underground tunnel.
It’ll be my first time in FRA (always avoided by going MUC/ZRH, and neither had security checks only passport), so I’m just looking for advice on how worried I should be about a misconnect? I know it’ll be tight, but should I be rushing through or is walking quickly going to be enough?
TIA
On your outbound, after landing from YYZ, you won’t need to go through security (only passport control) if you take the B-A/Z transfer bus from B, which runs until 14:00 (2 pm). Your YYZ flight lands shortly after 11am, if I am not mistaken, so the bus should be running. Flights from clean countries should route you into the B departure concourse, from where you will follow the signs for A/Z. The bus leaves from downstairs (so from one of the B58/59/60 gates; I can’t remember exactly which one, but it is signposted) and takes you to a clean arrivals door one floor down from passport control in the A/Z concourses (follow the signs for the A gates). If you have an EU passport or are registered with the EasyPass RTP registered traveller programme, you can use the eGates (automated border control), which will save you some time. From passport control, it isn’t far to A1/A2.
You cannot use the B-A tunnel on your way to VRN unless you are willing to exit airside and re-enter via security.
On the way back to YYZ, you won’t have to clear security and can simply take the tunnel to B, where you would go through passport control.
In the unlikely event that your inbound from YYZ parks at a remote stand rather than a B gate, the buses will take you to the clean arrivals door I mentioned above.
