I rented from Europcar in 2023 and received a parking violation notice from the Pienza authorities... almost exactly one year later... Never heard anything from Europcar, which I also thought was strange. I've received a few over the years from various countries and have found they typically take between 1-6 months to process, but I'll always hear from the rental company first. This was the only time I never heard anything. Wasn't able to reach the authorities when trying to contact them via the info on the notice, so I just disregarded it. I haven't had any issues renting in Italy since.
