Bit of an interesting one...I was meant to fly back to AKL the previous day with a confirmed upgrade in BP however due to the strike, I was put on the next flight the following day with upgrade pending.
On the day, as soon as I entered the lounge in MEL, the lovely agent acknowledged that I had a pending upgrade and advised will page me one hour before the flight departure. She also made a comment that she could see there were 18 x upgrade requests on this flight and I was #3 on the list. She did page me an hour before departure and printed the BP for PE which I happily accepted.
On board, the FA and ISM came over and apologised for not being able to confirm the BP seat for me. They said several seats were broken (tray table malfunction) and it was embarrassing for them, considering this was the refurbished aircraft. I was happy that I could get home. The upgrade to PE was cherry on top given the situation last week.
