But doing 2 weeks in KL might bore me, so I'm looking at the other countries nearby that can get me a few basic Marriott brands.
KL is great to get some brands I've never explored -- Citizen M, Marriott apartments, and Renaissance. Their Autograph, Tribute, Element, Rtiz, JW Marriott are cheap to do. Might do St. Regis, but the price is the equivalent of 3 nights elsewhere.
But Westin, Sheraton, Marriott, Courtyard, Moxy, etc are easier to come by in other countries. I just happened to luck out being in the region and having an excuse to visit KL.
The Meridien and Aloft in KL are a stone's throw away from each other, too, just for kicks. The Aloft has a very good breakfast and a decent rooftop pool. And if you're trying to build status with Hilton, too, you can do a night in the Meridien and the next night enter the left-hand door instead of the right one and get a night at the Hilton
