Pretty good stay soured by destination fee inconsistency
I had a 1-night stay on a FNA. Received a top-floor urban king as a Discoverist. Room was what I expected - a little snug but comfortable. I was able to fit a couple soda cans in the tiny fridge by removing the little candy bar shelves. The gym was decent and the surrounding area was nice enough for a daytime jog around Lake Merritt. Tax on top of valet pushes parking to near $60, but that bite hurts relatively less since the Emeryville HH now charges $27 for self-parking.
On check-in, I was presented with a card listing the destination fee benefits, with the agent noting that the fee was waived on an award stay. One of the benefits was a $7 market credit. Just before checkout, I picked up one of the overnight oat parfait cups [meh, would get something different next time] from the market ($8). When I saw that the credit hadn't been applied on the folio, I asked the (now different) desk agent about the fee. This agent said "I'm sure you were told about the destination benefits, but I'm afraid that was wrong and benefits don't apply to free stays. As an exception I'll apply the credit." SMH.
