-500/600 were ordered to replace their orphan -400/-400M fleet.
Made sense at the time given they had already operated A330-300 and A340-300...
Sounds familiar ?
People are using the same argument now trying to justify 777X (A new variant of an existing type they operate , yet to be in service, unproven, many teething issues before even entering service) which may turn our to be the flop here vs A350 (A proven successful new type, operated and loved by many other airlines)
