When you're hacked, do you bother to use the free credit monitoring services?
By now, I know my social security number has been involved in multiple hacks.
I've had my credit frozen for years.
It's a PITA but when I apply for new card or anything requiring a credit check, I just unfreeze it temporarily and it's worked for my purposes. It certainly causes a hitch in the card application process.
I don't think I've ever availed myself of the free credit monitoring. So I got hacked again and I'm being offered a 12-month membership in Epic's Privacy Solutions ID. I have until end of April to activate it.
Has anyone tried using these services?
Of course you get your name linked with yet another business and no doubt they will pester you at the end of the 12 months to renew for some ridiculous price.
Do these credit monitoring services offer any value beyond already having frozen my credit with the 3 main agencies? I suppose it could be interesting to know if someone was trying to use my SSN somewhere. Otherwise?
