You're entitled to your opinion, but my view is that the #1 benefit of elite status is not getting stuck in a crappy base level room, particularly when traveling on business or redeeming points.

Are you referring to IHG Ambassador? Because if you're a Marriott AMB and you're not getting any upgrades something is amiss.
