It's actually not as weird as it looks in a UK context: it's still not entirely unusual in some of the older hotels to have sinks in the bedroom. I think it dates back to times when toilets and baths were shared but an individual sink allowed people to refresh, brush their teeth etc except that there they have often kept those water arrivals to keep sinks in rooms. Another (related) oddity is that it is still not unusual in the UK for said sinks to have separate hot and cold water taps as opposed to mixer taps, something I have never really understood myself but hey.
