I see the point, but for me the value of a lounge check-in isn’t speed per se or avoiding a queue at reception. The main advantage is being welcomed by the Club Lounge team themselves — the people who will then recognise you, look after you, and act as your primary point of contact during the stay.
The Club Lounge benefit isn’t just about food and drinks; it’s about a more personal, attentive form of service.
In most hotels, lounge access is controlled by keycard, so you don’t just wander in.
If there’s an Ambassador or dedicated desk, you’re usually directed straight to the lounge anyway. Waiting time is minimal.
And in hotels where you’re a regular guest, it becomes almost frictionless. At InterContinental Athens, for example, guest relations will take me directly to the Club Lounge as soon as they see me, and the check-in is done in seconds. Same experience at InterContinental Madrid.
So yes, if you just want a key as fast as possible, reception works. But if you value continuity and a more personalised stay, lounge check-in makes a lot of sense.
