While I agree it could be an option, a quick check of Alaska flights that day show around $150 pp, plus a PDX hotel will run about $200 a night (for a decent place) - so that's $500 right there plus the logistics, I'd just pay the incremental cost of a couple hundred more and stay in Seattle ($600 or so a night was mentioned). Plus we don't even know if he could change his flight to PDX.
I've not booked flights yet, but I can tell you my family would not be thrilled with playing the PDX-SEA commuting game day of the cruise (especially if my better half hears I got the idea from FT).
We're likely going to pull the trigger on the Westin Bellevue. Pricing sucks, but sucks less than other options for a full-service hoteel and it's within a decent commute of the port.
