If you specifically tell the agent that your SWU is past expiration then of course they're going to tell you that they will expire or can't be used on another flight etc etc.
Just call, say you need to change your PNR to the new flights, and mention that you'd like the existing upgrade to carry over since there's also space in the new flight.
