ive seen tons of YMMV but mostly straight rejection of marriot pts and EQN via EDIT. meaning, there was a huge disconnect between chase/marriott agreement. which now makes sense chase just switched to MGM pts instead cuz marriott said screw u.
MGM hotels have different terms which isnt an issue if you book directly through Marriott but Chase Edit got caught up in the nuances.

Nonqualifying Channels.
Nonqualifying Channels for booking reservations at MGM Collection Hotels include: MGM Resorts Websites; MGM Rewards Website; MGM Rewards Mobile App; Tour Operators; Online Travel Channels; Marriott Travel Agents; or other channels not designated as a Qualifying Channel by the Company and MGM.
