Already ‘a thing’ with at least two (maybe more ,,,,,?) of the premium carriers, notably EK and SQ.

Gold status available instantly if you get approved for the right credit card, in the right country ……. no prior flying required !

Nothing like £5K needed, and a bunch of free miles too !
