I'm with you on this. I wouldn't mind a higher annual fee at all. A lot of current holders got in years ago when the spend requirements were much lower, and most of them stick around because the card still holds value. But a fee increase would give Amex the room to actually upgrade the benefits, bring in new members who are a great fit, and make the card worth it for everyone. A refresh like that would be a good thing.
