not as worried about refund vs non-refund as I intent to take the trip and even if I get a credit, I will use it at somepoint
but then the issue is the fare class with regards to my position on an UG list (CPU vs PP)

in other words, since the refund status is not important, why not go with the money back and higher fare bucket?
