We have an 18 hour overnight transit stop coming up in Doha. We have boarding passes for the continuing flight.

The plan is to get a hotel in Doha and do some sightseeing.

Question: Is it possible to pick up our checked luggage in Doha (ie only tag them to DOH) and then recheck them for the continuing flight or will they insist on checking it straight to the final destination. Any experiences with mishandling of checked luggage during such a long transit in Doha?
