peeps, what is the procedure for canceling an award ticket online?

I see the options to "request a refund" and if i click the first few steps I indeed see that all the amount of miles and taxes is "refundable".
If so, are then the miles deposited back to the account immediately (so I can book another one)? Any recent examples?
