But I agree that warm (especially diet) soft drinks are not good.
100% disagree. Unlike coffee where there is no standard way of taking it, ice in a glass of soda is beyond standard in the US. You don’t have to specify this anywhere from McDonald’s to high end restaurants, to movie theaters, stadiums, or anywhere else you order a soda. It comes with ice by default and if you don’t want that, then you make the special request. What’s next, requesting no ice when I order a beer?
