Have just booked award travel today in Y for LAX-PVG next week for self and a friend. I am a 1K and have applied for upgrade to J for both of us using PPs.

Looking at the seat maps, there are always J9 availability (and many more open J seats in the the seat map) until about 2 days before when it shrinks to J5 ish and then one day before when it goes to J1 or 0.

Is that likely to be a sign of PP upgrades clearing, or are 10-20 people really booking J flights that last minute, every day?!

I have tried turning on the United Expert mode but it's not showing me the fare classes (maybe due to whatever IT issues they've had today?)

I wonder what our chances are.
