I don't think I'd take one comment from one Concierge as evidence that people have so significantly changed their travel patterns to direct flights due to the AP qualification changes such that AC is now trying to 'figure out how to fill seats'. I'd suggest it was a limited number of people (many on this board) who added hours and hours to their travel plans to add segments. Non-stop vs. stopover I believe is a choice driven largely by price.
