I regularly used my power bank on long haul AY flights to charge my hearing aids (using a USB A lead) and charged my iPhone from the USB A port in the little cupboard by the reading lamp.

But I was aware of the change and brought a USB C lead for my flight to DEL so I could use both ports in the little cupboard.

There was an announcement on my flight yesterday about not using them and not to put them in the overhead locker (which I confess I ignored).

A similar announcement was made on my AI flight today so it’s certainly spreading.
