The complication of this is that the terms say you cannot use an upgrade voucher for a flight starting outside of the UK...otherwise it would be fairly straightforward just to book outbound and inbound in 2 separate bookings with a different voucher each time. Presumably by calling they can bypass this rule and merge all the flights into one 'return' booking?
Yes they would just add a second return flight to the same booking, which is permitted under the rules of the voucher, one booking reference.
