The complication of this is that the terms say you cannot use an upgrade voucher for a flight starting outside of the UK...otherwise it would be fairly straightforward just to book outbound and inbound in 2 separate bookings with a different voucher each time. Presumably by calling they can bypass this rule and merge all the flights into one 'return' booking?
I did read about someone who did this on another thread, they booked the outbound as a single and then when the return became available they called and got it added. Unfortunately I can't find the thread now, but I'm pretty certain it is possible. A quick call to BA would resolve this if anyone has a slow day.
You have to do this before the outbound, once the outbound has been flown you can't change the return I believe. Someone else just said you could also book a return for a date you don't want and change it subsequently. I'm in the same situation so if and when my return seat pops up i will update on here.
