The rumours you you hear are sadly true. Select/Threshold benefits have been replaced by Milestone Benefits (MB's) which much be earned via reaching set Status Qualifying Credit (SQC) thresholds. If you check your Dashboard you can see if you received any SQC's as a 'Head Start' and how far away you are from the next MB threshold.
Always much better to trust FlyerTalk as the source of truth over an AC agent.
