I re-qualified for Gold in December (earlier than expected, thanks in part to one booking which qualified for the 13x multiplier) and decided against paying for a Senator status extension on Lufthansa (while it was reasonable priced, there just isn’t enough of a difference to justify it).

Then came the cuts to CE service, and I have to say that that has done more to reduce my enthusiasm for BA than Tiermaggedon did as a lot of my flying is short haul business around Europe. For years, BA had the best proposition, but the prospect of being fobbed off with a pathetic breakfast on domestics and half a ploughman’s on afternoon Band 3 flights is just unacceptable.

Despite the changes predominantly affecting short haul, it means that my next round of transatlantic business is going to Lufthansa too, which will put me where I’d much rather be anyway: At the front of an A340-600 or on the upper deck of a 747-400.

I’ll let the status chips fall where they may in the next earnings year.
