It's fairly minor tweaks to the service, but thought I may as well flag it, as there doesn't seem to be an appropriate thread to mention. It's appreciated when flying gets better rather than the normal relentless slog of BA or AA to remove "
one more olive".
I just did a HKG-LHR-HKG Cathay First return. It's been a few months (6?) since my last CX F trip (LAX), but I think that Cathay has made a few very minor service enhancements to First without really making a big deal of it:
1. There is a buggy offer, at least at both HKG and LHR
In HKG I used it to get to the gate 63 lounge. At LHR they came to find me in the dining room to offer the transfer. As the flight ended up going from gate 7 I declined, but they were very happy to do so even though it was less than 5 minutes ride. And I saw the CX branded LHR buggy as I walked to the gate. It was explicitly flagged as a first class perk. (PS I'm still dreaming of the good old days in BKK with Thai F where you "flew" around the airport, horn blaring, the Cathay HKG buggy seems stuck at 6kmh and is a lot less fun). Aware this used to be a DM privilege.. But seems to have been extended.
2. New headphones from Bowers&Wilkins
I believe these are new and add a little to your experience. Certainly feel very weighty but also look like quality. Sound was fine.
3. Discovery wines are now integrated in the wine list
In the past it used to be a random extra sheet of paper that may, or may not, be there to offer a discovery wine. Now it seems Chinese "discovery" wines are fully part of the wine list. As a result it seems you may be able to guarantee expensive Chinese options on your flight
Considering my other more recent "Cathay" first seats were on HKG-DOH / and vice versa with QR, these little tweaks do distinguish CX from competitors whilst we all wait for the new seat.
Am I right? Or have I just misremembered.
