Amex seems reluctant (at best) to do more than it has already done with its BAC partnership, no Mastercard/Visa issuer will be able to do much due to the cap on interchange fees, Nectar is hardly a resounding success and isn't likely to suddenly become any more interesting than it currently is, so what does that leave? Where is BA going get the partners it very clearly needs if it's to copy the ecosystems the likes of American, Delta and United have created?
They could throw in the towel and do what IB did: earned TPs at 1/10 the rate of Avios for their commercial tie-ins and sell Avios. Trying to sell a second currency isn’t that easy.
