What is the strategy people are following for Southwest given the flight credit expiration policy? I assume that everyone is booking Choice tickets <$109 in order to get the 12 month flight credit expiration and transferability vs. the 6 months for the Basic fares. It does make me think that I should delay getting the credits until later in the year to extend the credit duration, but on the other hand, there's always the risk that the loophole gets closed on us.
FWIW, I was able to combine 2 credits I had from basic fares,(expire in 6 months) along with $6 from a gift card (never expires) into one Choice Extra ticket (whatever the highest level ticket is) and then when I canceled that flight, it refunded it to my account in a credit that is fully transferable and never expires. (this was about a week ago)
